Resumo: | Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are characterized by occasional pain, causing discomfort in the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ), chewing muscles and adjacent tissues. Laser therapy with low intensity laser has analgesic effect, improving symptoms, a fact proven in the literature. Objective: to demonstrate that laser therapy is an effective treatment for the symptoms of TMD, however, it needs to be associated with psychological therapy, in order to alleviate the causes of pain caused by anxiety and stress, emphasizing the importance of diagnosis and integrated treatment. Method: A randomized clinical trial was carried out, with women aged between 22 and 60 years old, patients from the Dental School clinic of the Centro Universitário do Distrito Federal - UDF, in the city of Brasília-DF. The patients were perform anamnesis using the visual analogue pain scale (VAS), the Diagnostic Research Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorder (RDC / TMD) was used, as well as a psychosocial analysis by the Psychology team. Subsequently, the participants were divided into 2 groups, in which group 1 was performed laser therapy, and group 2 was the group control. The treatment protocol for painful symptoms for LBI therapy was used the Therapy EC - DMC® equipment, Diode 808nm, with continuous emission mode and multiple application for 70 seconds at each point, energy density of 7J / cm2-9J/cm2 and power of 100 mW ± 20%. Results: For statistical analysis, the GraphPad Prisma software was used. The variables were analyzed from means and standard deviations, for independent samples and intra-group analyzes using the paired t-test and, for final analysis, the chisquare test. For the entire study, the individual will constitute the unit of analysis and the level of significance was set at 5% (p> 0.05). |

Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are characterized by occasional pain, causing discomfort in the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ), chewing muscles and adjacent tissues. |
