A ruptured anterior cruciate ligament is one of the most common and serious injuries to the knee. Knee ligament injuries are identified as the most serious, with the tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) being the most frequent. Cryotherapy has been used as one of the means for postoperative treatment. Relieving acute symptoms, including pain and swelling, cryotherapy is believed to speed up postoperative rehabilitation and return to regular activities. The aim of this study was to verify the effectiveness of the effects of cryotherapy in the 2 postoperative period of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, through a literature review in the Scielo, PubMed, MEDline and Bireme databases, using the following descriptors: Anterior cruciate ligament , cryotherapy and postoperative. In the detailed search through the descriptors, 288 articles were found in the period 2011 to 2021. The articles that are part of the study were chosen, as they met the inclusion criteria, articles that were reviews, monographs, TCC articles and that did not comply selection criteria did not enter the search. After inclusion, we used the PEDro scale as the final criterion for selection, and through the scale seven articles were selected, thus passing to the integral reading of the articles. During the detailed review of the articles, we can conclude that cryotherapy has good results in the pain of patients, accelerating the process of recovery and return to normal activities.
