Resumo: | Cerebral Palsy caused by non-progressive brain injury in the central nervous system that causes neurological changes in the individual. This study aimed to assess trunk control in children with cerebral palsy, tracing the sociodemographic and clinical profile, evaluating and classifying the gross motor function. A descriptive field study was carried out, with a quantitative approach, which took place in one at Clínica Escola de Fisioterapia, located in João Pessoa-PB. The sample was non-probabilistic and for convenience composed of 4 children diagnosed with cerebral palsy. For data collection, a form containing sociodemographic and clinical data was used, and soon after the assessment of trunk control was performed using the Segmental Assessment of Trunk Control. Calculations of measures of central tendency and standard deviation were used. In the results, the ages of the children ranged between 5 and 11 years, the average age was 7.7 (SD: ± 2.7) and the median 7.5 years being 75% male and 25% female, where 75% had spastic cerebral palsy and 25% ataxic. Regarding trunk control, 25% of the participants had level 7 and the other 75%, level 8, which represents the highest level of SATCo, among them, 25% had GMFCS II, 25% GMFCS III and 50% GMCS IV. These results show that the Segmental Assessment of Trunk Control proved to be effective in quantifying the level of trunk control, therefore, it allows a better targeting of the physiotherapeutic intervention, providing greater functional independence to the individual. |
