Desequilíbrio mastigatório e postural e a relação com a percepção de dores cervicais em pessoas com deficiência visual

Masticatory dysfunctions present several clinical manifestations and with a high relevance of postural changes in people with visual impairment. This study aims to verify the masticatory muscle imbalance, posture and perception of pain in the cervical region in people with visual impairment. 26 individuals of both sexes participated in this research, with an average age of 31.92 years old, presenting total and partial visual impairments, submitted to electromyographic evaluations (EMG) in different clinical conditions associated with a questionnaire that identifies how neck pain affects the activities of daily life NDI (Neck Disability Index) and postural assessment using biophotogrammetry. The results show the main postural changes, in the anterior view there was a cervical inclination to the left in 2.82 cm, in the posterior view there was an elevation of the left shoulder in relation to the right shoulder in 9.15 cm, in the right and left lateral views there was a flexion - 2.44 cm cervical extension of the head in relation to the cervical spine, a 0.67 cm thoracic hyperkyphosis, the population also showed a 5.08 cm difference in scapular alignment on the right side compared to the left. In the EMG assessment there was a greater activation of the masticatory musculature on the left side, the NDI showed a minimal cervical disability of around 80%. The present study resulted in postural and masticatory changes in all volunteers, but there was no correlation with cervical disability related to neck pain based on the test [c2 (1) = 1.578; p-value = 0.209], at a level of 5% significance.
