The oroantral communication has several etiologies, but the most frequente is during the extraction of the posterior superior teeth. This pathological opening occurs due to the close anatomical relationship between the maxillary sinus and the roots of these teeth. Knowledge of this complication becomes important, since it is common in the dental office, where it is necessary for the dental surgeon to have a theoretical and practical domain in prevention and specific treatment for this type of sinus pathology to avoid the onset of other diseases such as oroantral fistula and maxillary sinusites. For the surgical treatment of oroantral communications there are several techniques described in the literature, such as the buccal sliding flaps, the rotated palatal flaps, and the buccal fat pad flap. For a correct treatment it is necessary a knowledge and a good planning on the part of the dentist to know to identify which technique is best for each size of oroantral communication and for each individual.
