Resumo: Many studies address Social Assistance as a public policy, the duty of the State and the right of the citizen. However, those dealing with the health of workers in the Unified Social Assistance System, working conditions and impacts on individuals' personal and working life are still incipient. This gap needs to be studied considering the role of these workers in tackling inequality and poverty. Who are they, what do they do and how do they do it? Do they get sick? What are the objective and subjective health and work conditions? What do you think about that? In this sense, the present study has as its object, the health of workers in the Unified Social Assistance System and how work impacts their lives, considering working conditions, service quality, public management and the impact on personal life and employment of these individuals. The study sought to identify factors present in professional practice that trigger processes of suffering and illness and that affect the materiality and sociability of the subjects, affecting their physical and mental health. For this, a qualitative and exploratory research was conducted, with theoretical and methodological support of dialectical materialism. 189 SUAS workers, belonging to the State of São Paulo, participated in the survey, who filled out the questionnaire with 24 questions (open and closed) made available online. Among these workers, 24 participated in the focus groups, distributed in two groups, the first being carried out in person and the second online, through the COVID-19 pandemic. The results showed that there are several factors that permeate the work environment, such as: lack of structure, reduced staff, management failures, political issues, hierarchical relationships, overload, among others, which directly affects the health of these workers. In addition, indicators of stress and psychosomatic illnesses were found as a result of work. In this context, health promotion emerges as a strategy for improving the quality of life and well-being, through the valorization and professional recognition and alternative strategies for coping and promoting spaces that provide theoretical exchange and experiences. Understanding the reality of these workers can serve as a basis for planning health promotion actions, aiming at improving the quality of life of these professionals who work directly with the population in social vulnerability. Keywords: Worker's health. Social assistance. Health promotion. Quality of lifeMuitos estudos abordam a Assistência Social como política pública dever do Estado e direito do cidadão.
