Percepção da comunicação médico-paciente na abordagem ao peso: o olhar da pessoa atendida

The discrimination suffered by the fat person can come from health professionals during their care activities. Health communication, being based on interaction and partnership with patients, promotes high quality care. One of the premises for the deconstruction of prejudice is to understand the suffering it generates and to give victims a voice in order to know and better understand their perception of their stigmas. The objective of this work is to identify, from the patient's perception, negative feelings, actions and attitudes related to the approach of his weight in a doctor's office. For this purpose, qualitative field research is used in which a group interview, with 08 participants, was conducted by videoconference. The recruitment of participants was carried out through the online dissemination of an invitation on social networks. The speeches were transcribed and submitted to content analysis that generated three categories: (1) Invisibility of being served - describes the feelings related to the overvaluation of the issue of weight to the detriment of the demand presented, (2) Discontinuity of care - discusses how experiences with medical care they can reduce the search for health care and (3) Weight as a threat - discusses the use of risk associated with excess weight as a convincing tool. In the analysis, the categories were discussed considering the perspective of Communication Skills in the Clinical Interview and the Person-Centered Clinical Method. Such discussions allowed to infer that the way the weight is approached in a doctor's office can cause suffering and discontinuity of medical assistance from the non-recognition of the person inside the fat body.
