Resumo: It’s approached in a general way the role of information professionals, defining their profile, outlining and formalizing the professional competencies. Examines the ethical aspects present in the practical exercise of the profession, both those related to the use, control, access and dissemination of information (intellectual property, information access, intellectual freedom, censorship, etc.) as the generic relating to professional practice in general (negligence, responsibility). Provides a critical assessment of ethical conduct that currently develops the information professional, as well as the influence of their attitudes towards the knowledge society emerged by paradigmatic technological processes, examining all these problems in front of the new opportunities and challenges posed by the development of information and communication new technologies.

Se analizan los aspectos éticos presentes en el ejercicio práctico de la profesión, tanto los relacionados con el uso, control, acceso y difusión de la información (propiedad intelectual, acceso a la información, libertad intelectual, censura, etc.) como los más genéricos concernientes a la práctica profesional en general (negligencia, responsabilidad). Se establece una valoración crítica acerca de la conducta ética que desarrolla actualmente el profesional de la información, así como la influencia de sus actitudes frente a la sociedad del conocimiento emergida por los paradigmáticos procesos tecnológicos, examinando todos estos problemas a la luz de las nuevas posibilidades y retos planteados por el desarrollo de las nuevas tecnologías de la información y la comunicación.O papel desempenhado pelo profissional da informação é abordado de forma geral, definindo o seu perfil, delineando e formalizando as competências profissionais.
