The movement for the free access to the scientific knowledge (Open Access - OA) had its beginning in the scientific community of the countries central, which faced diverse difficulties in the production, diffusion and access the publications Thus the main object of study of this research is one of the main actors of the scientific communication, the information professional (librarians, archivists, etc.), his role in this new paradigm, the OA in the Latin-American context. For this before makes one brief description of the emergence of “new” the scientific communication, the antecedents of the sprouting of the OA, the Latin-American context of the sprouting of this movement and finally the role of the professional of the information.
