Resumo: The critical attitude towards access, selection and use of information is a necessary condition for the development of citizenship. Therefore, how do competences in the field of information contribute to the process of “critical” formation of the citizen? Based on this research question, in general, it is intended to understand what types of competences are pointed out by researchers in the field of Information Science as necessary to access information and, specifically, to verify in the publications relevant themes for the research context and, finally, to analyze the articulation between the concepts of these competences and the processes of formation for citizenship in contemporary times. This is an exploratory research with a qualitative-quantitative nature, using the content analysis technique to create analysis categories relevant to the research context. The search strategy was carried out in the Referential database of Articles of Journals in Information Science (Brapci), which consists of 57 national journals in the area of Information Science. The Brapci database was chosen because it allows an overview of production in the area of Information Science. It was observed that competences in the field of information contribute to the process of “critical” formation of the citizen, insofar as they enable full conditions for access and use of information. Also contributing to the construction of knowledge and understanding of their ethical responsibility in the informational and social field.
