Resumo: This research objective investigate what the policies were responsible for opening the library of the City Council of Sao Paulo at Sao Paulo society, who were responsible for this achievement and that the political, social and cultural situation that happened, so that the institution was called, later, Municipal Library Mario de Andrade. It is intended as a result, to reconstruct this small space in the history of public libraries in Brazil, through a survey of laws, decrees, information and facts that make possible recount how this process occurred. Even still standing developing, we present the partial results obtained from the beginning of the study.

Como resultado, se pretende reconstruir este pequeño espacio en la historia de las bibliotecas públicas brasileñas, a través del levantamiento de leyes, decretos, informaciones y hechos que permitan narrar cómo ocurrió ese proceso. Si bien aún está en desarrollo, presentaremos los resultados parciales obtenidos desde el inicio del estudio.A presente pesquisa objetiva investigar quais foram às políticas responsáveis pela abertura da biblioteca da Câmara Municipal de São Paulo à sociedade paulistana, quem foram os responsáveis por esse feito e em que contexto político, social e cultural essa situação se deu, para que a instituição fosse denominada, mais tardiamente, Biblioteca Municipal Mário de Andrade. Pretende-se, como resultado, reconstruir esse pequeno espaço da história das bibliotecas públicas brasileiras, através do levantamento das leis, decretos, informações e fatos que possibilitem recontar de que maneira esse processo ocorreu.
