Evolution of performance traits on boars test stations in Santa Catarina

Resumo: Data from 1,016 boars of Landrace (465), Large White (407) and Duroc (144) breeds tested at four performance test stations in Santa Catarina from 1977 to 1981 were analysed to evaluate the effects of test station, breed, season, year tested within station and their interactions on final age (FA, age at 100 kg), average daily gain (ADG), food conversion (FC) and backfat thickness (BF). There were differences (P < 0.01) among test stations for FC and BF, and among breeds (P <0.01) for SI traits. The interaction test station x breed was significant for FA (P < 0.05) and ADG e FC (P <0.01). The initial age (77.8 ± 5.8 days) showed a linear effect for FA and ADO (P < 0.01) and for BF (P < 0.05) with the following respective regression coefficients: 1.16 ± 0.04; -2.35 ± 0.47 and -0.004 ± 0.002. Time trends estimated by polynomial regression using data from Concórdia test station, showed no evidence of strong favorable evolution on tire traits. These results suggest the stratification of the herds, as an effort to increase the number of boars tested per herd and intensify tire selection based on testing results.

These results suggest the stratification of the herds, as an effort to increase the number of boars tested per herd and intensify tire selection based on testing results.Utilizaram-se informações sobre 1.016 suínos machos de pedigree das raças Landrace (465), Large White (407) e Duroc (144), testados quanto ao desempenho, em quatro estações de testes de reprodutores suínos (ETRS), em Santa Catarina, no período de 1977 a 1981.  Analisaram-se as características: idade ao final do teste (IFT), ganho de peso diário médio (GPD), conversão alimentar (CA) e espessura do toucinho (ET). Estudou-se, também, a tendência de cada característica no período, na ETRS de Concórdia, pela decomposição do efeito ano, por meio de regressão polinomial. O efeito de estação de teste foi significativo (P < 0,01) para a CA e ET, e a raça (P < 0,01), para todas as características. A interação estação de teste x raça foi significativa para a IFT (P < 0,05), para a GPD e a CA (P > 0,01). A idade ao início do teste (77,8 ± 5,8 dias) apresentou efeito linear sobre o IFT e o GPD (P < 0,01) e a ET (P < 0,05), com os seguintes valores b = 1,16 ±0,04 dias, -2,35 ± 0,47 g e -0,004 ± 0,002 cm.
