Effect of thermal treatment on the agronomic efficiency of nepheline sienite

Resumo: The effect of thermal treatment on the fertilizer value of nepheline sienite (NS) was evaluated. Heating NS alone at temperatures ranging from 110 to 900 °C during one hour had no effect on the amount of soluble K, as evaluated by chemical analysis and biological extraction using com (Zea mays, L.) plants. However, mixtures composed of NS + limestone heated at 900 and 1.150°C increased K solubilization by 50% as evidenced by chemical analysis. Mixture calcination of 1/2 SN + + 112 dolomitic lime resulted in material with fertilizing and liming properties with 3-4% of K2O, 18-20% of CaO and 10-12% of MgO. This mixture exhibited agronomic efficiency as good as KCI and had calcium carbonate equivalent neutralizing value between 60 to 70%. It is evidenced that NS, a potassium rock with low solubility, can be transformed into a corrective fertilizer with desirable characteristics to low-fertility acid soils, that predominates in Central Brazil, where deposits of K soluble salts are not known.

O aquecimento do SN puro a temperaturas variando de 110 a 900°C por uma hora, teve pouco efeito na solubilização do K, avaliada através de análise química e extração biológica, utilizando-se o milho (Zea mays L.) como planta indicadora. Entretanto, quando o SN foi aquecido em mistura meia a meia com calcário calcítico ou dolomítico, em temperaturas de 900 a 1,150°C por uma hora, houve solubilização de aproximadamente 50% do K da rocha. Ação fundente da rocha calcária foi evidenciada em temperaturas superiores a 900 °C, conforme demonstrado pelas análises químicas e avaliação da eficiência agronômica das diferentes misturas testadas. A calcinação da mistura 1/2 SN + 1/2 calcário dolomítico resultou em material com propriedade fertilizante e conetiva contendo 3-4% de K2O solúvel, 18-20% de CaO e 10-12% de MgO. Essa mistura mostrou eficiência equivalente a KCI, e teve PRNT entre 60-70%. Fica evidenciado que o SN, rocha potássica de baixa solubilidade, pode ser transformado em termo fertilizante-corretivo com características desejáveis para solos ácidos e de baixa fertilidade, predominantes no Brasil Central, onde jazidas de sais solúveis de K ainda não foram encontradas.Pesquisa Agropecuaria BrasileiraPesquisa Agropecuária BrasileiraSiqueira, José OswaldoGuedes, Geraldo A.
