Cowpea response to the remotion of the flowers and pods

Resumo: The objective of this study was to evaluate the green grains yield and dry grains yield of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.) genotypes (CNCx 187-22D-2, CNCx 24-015-E, CNCx 149-016 and Pitiúba). It also aimed at the evaluation of the effects of "fruiting treatments" (normal fruiting, partial fruiting suppression and total fruiting suppression) on the dry matter of stems, leaves, pods and total dry matter (stems + leaves + pods) of the compared genotypes. In normal fruiting, dry grains were harvested. Partial fruiting suppression was obtained harvesting green grains. In total fruit suppression, all flowers produced were daily harvested. Two factorial experiments 4 x 3 were carried out in Mossoró county, Rio Grande do Norte State, Brazil, during 1988/89. Genotypes did not differ as to green pods yield, green grains yield and dry grains yield. The total fruit suppression overcame the normal fruiting and partial fruiting suppression as to dry matter yield of leaves and stems. Fruiting treatments did not differ as dry matter yields of pericarps, grains and total dry matter yield.

Walp.) (CNCx 187-22D-2, CNCx 24-015-E, CNCx 149-016 e Pitiúba). Objetivou-se também estudar os efeitos de tratamentos de frutificação - frutificação normal, supressão parcial da frutificação e supressão total da frutificação - sobre o rendimento de matérias secas de caules, folhas e vagens dos genótipos avaliados. Na frutificação normal, foram colhidos grãos secos. A supressão parcial da frutificação foi obtida colhendo-se grãos verdes. Na supressão total da frutificação, todas as flores foram colhidas diariamente. Dois experimentos fatoriais 4 x 3 foram realizados em Mossoró. Os genótipos não diferiram quanto aos rendimentos de vagens e grãos de feijão verde e de grãos maduros. A supressão total da frutificação superou a frutificação normal e a supressão parcial da frutificação, quanto aos rendimentos de matérias secas de folhas e de caules.
