Resumo: The effects of the fungicides pentachloronitrobenzene, metalaxil/mancozeb and the herbicide trifluralin on the growth of strains of Bradyrhizobium japonicum (29W and SEMIA 587), and Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. phaseoli (C-05 and C-05 II), were studied in agar medium. Strain SEMIA 587 of B. japonicum was more susceptible to these agrochemicals, and strain C-05 II of R. leguminosarum was the most resistant, although it had been susceptible to metalaxil/mancozeb. The respiratory activity, measured by radiorespirometry revealed that the mutant strain of R. leguminosarum, (C-05 II) had its respiratory activity enhanced by all the agrochemicals.
