Pers.) biomass a study was conducted during 1988/89, 1989/90, and 1990/91. Soybean was drilled at constant density at 0.35 m and 0.70 m between rows in presence of different densities of johnsongrass. Free-weed plots were established. At harvest, crops yield and total weed biomass were determined. Correlations between weed density at 20-40 days after drilling and crop yield and weed biomass were done and slopes were statistically compared. Rainfalls in every year of the study were recorded. With unfavorable hydric conditions soybean drilled at 0.35 m seems to compete better with the crop than when seeded at 0.70 m. In more favourable environments, row spacing did not affect yields and weed biomass crop spatial arrangement did not alter weed-free soybean yields in any year of the study.Se evaluó el efecto de distancias entre surcos sobre el rendimiento de soja y la biomasa de sorgo de Alepo (Sorghum halepense (L.) Pers.). Durante 1988/89; 1989/90 y 1990/91 se sembró soja distanciada a 0.35 m y 0.70 m entre filas a una densidad constante en presencia de distintas densidades de sorgo de Alepo. Se estabelecieron además parcelas libres de la maleza. A la cosecha se determinó el rendimiento del cultivo y la biomasa total de la maleza. Se realizaron correlaciones entre densidad de la maleza a los 20-40 días después la siembra y el rendimiento de soja y la biomasa de la maleza y las pendientes se compararon estadísticamente. Se registraron las precipitaciones en cada ano de estudio. Cuando las condiciones hídricas fueron desfavorables la soja sembrada a 0.35 m parece competir mejor con la maleza que en siembras a 0.70 m. En ambientes más favorables, la distancia entre lineas no afectó los rendimientos ni la biomasa de la maleza.
