Seedling recruitment, emergence fluxes, seedling survival, fecundity, initial and final seed banks and the annual rate of growth of the populations (l) with the two latter parameters were evaluated. Three pigweed emergence cohorts were evaluated. Seed production was only observed in first and second cohorts were evaluated. Seed production was higher density and greater number of seeds. Crop presence did not remarkably affect any the parameters considered. The l increased on average 53% in absence of the crop and 59% in presence of the crop when no chemical control and cultivation were performed. When a cultivation was done, l increase oscilated between 9 and 20% depending on the year. When herbicides were used, l shoved a population increase of 9% for postemergence applications and 28% for preemergence applications.Durante los años 1986/87 y 1987/88 se realizaron ensayos con el objetivo de describir y analizar el efecto de diferentes prácticas de manejo sobre la dinámica de una población de yuyo colorado (Amaranthus quitensis). Se evaluó: reclutamiento, periodicidad de la emergencia, supervivencia, fecundidad, banco de semillas inicial y final y con este último parámetro se calculó la tasa anual de crecimiento de la población (l). Se definieron tres cohortes de emergencia de yuyo colorado; sólo la Ira. y 2da. produjeron semillas; la Ira. presentó una mayor densidad de plantas y aportó el mayor número de semillas. La presencia del cultivo no afectó, en forma marcada a ninguno de los parámetros analizados. El "l" aumentó en media un 53% en ausencia del cultivo y un 50% cuando en presencia del mismo no se realizaron controles químicos ni mecánicos. En el caso de realizar una labor mecánica (escardillo) el aumento del "l," varió entre un 9 y un 20% según el año.
