Resumo: Experiments were conducted at the Centro Nacional de Pesquisa de Milho e Sorgo (CNPMS) at Sete Lagoas, MG, Brazil, to study the biology and potential of Doru luteipes (Scudder, 1876) as a predator of Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith, 1797) eggs and larvae, under laboratory conditions. Field experiments were conducted to determine the effect of several insecticides on the predator. In the biological studies, it was observed that D. luteipes produced an average of 26.6 eggs per oviposition and that the incubation period was 7.31 days. The nymphal stage varied from 37.1 to 50.1 days according to the diet used. The average adults stage ranged from 83.2 to 143 days when fed with a diet of eggs or larvae, respectively. This study indicated that this insect has a good potential as a predator of S. frugiperda. In the nymphal stage the daily consumption was 12, 10 and 8 larvae when consumed alone, with corn leaves and with a diet, respectively. In the adult stage the daily consumption was, in the same order as above, 21, 19 and 10 larvae. Among the insecticides tested in field experiments, permethrin, deltamethrin and methomyl were efficient in controlling S. frugiperda and did not affect the predator D. luteipes. Based on the results, it was concluded that D. luteipes under laboratory conditions gave an efficient control of S. frugiperda (eggs and larvae) and can be used under field conditions as for controlling this important pest of corn.

Pesquisa Agropecuaria BrasileiraPesquisa Agropecuária BrasileiraReis, Luciene LanzaOliveira, Lenita JacobCruz, Ivan2014-04-17info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://seer.sct.embrapa.br/index.php/pab/article/view/13854Pesquisa Agropecuaria Brasileira; v.23, n.4, abr. 1988; 333-342Pesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira; v.23, n.4, abr. 1988; 333-3421678-39210100-104xreponame:Pesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira (Online)instname:Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária (Embrapa)instacron:EMBRAPAporhttps://seer.sct.embrapa.br/index.php/pab/article/view/13854/7858info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2014-09-11T17:38:34Zoai:ojs.seer.sct.embrapa.br:article/13854Revistahttp://seer.sct.embrapa.br/index.php/pabPRIhttps://old.scielo.br/oai/scielo-oai.phppab@sct.embrapa.br || sct.pab@embrapa.br1678-39210100-204Xopendoar:2014-09-11T17:38:34Pesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira (Online) - Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária (Embrapa)false
