Resumo: The main objective of this experiment was to observe the effect on performance and carcass traits of 16% or 14% protein levels when used as single levels during the growing-finishing periods and its comparison with a protein sequence of 16-13% for growing-finishing respectively. Crossbred Duroc x Large White x Landrace barrows (54) were allocated in collective pens with three animals by pen. The animals were fed ad libitum. The protein levels did not significatively (P>0.06) affect either, performance or carcass traits. The ration containing the 14% protein level was 7,0% and 1,2% cheaper than the rations containing 16% protein and 16-13% protein sequence respectively.

Os animais usados foram 54 suínos mestiços (Duroc X Large White X Landrace), machos castrados, que permaneceram em confinamento, em número de três por baia. Receberam ração e água à vontade. Usou-se um delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com três tratamentos e seis repetições, sendo, a unidade experimental, a baia. Os resultados não mostraram efeitos significativos (P>0,05) dos níveis de proteína das rações sobre o ganho médio em peso, consumo de ração, conversão alimentar, ou sobre os dados de características de carcaça.
