Resumo: The autors report the ocurrence of (Fusarium solani f. piperi Mart.) Appel & Wr. on plants of black pepper (Piper nigrum L.), in the physiographic zone knowm as Brejo of Paraíba State, Brazil. The black pepper disease damaged 70% of the crop as it has been previously reported to occur also in the Northern State of Pará. Due to the high damage the farmers were induced to abandon such an important crop. Inoculation experiments showed that the pathogen can kill pepper plants in 13 days.

Appel & Wr., incidindo em pimenteiras-do-reino (Piper nigrum L.), na microrregião do Brejo Paraibano, tal como acontece em Tomé-Açú, Belém do Pará, Norte do Brasil. Os prejuízos, nesse estado, foram avaliados em 70%. Como esse índice de danos foi elevado, os produtores foram obrigados a deixar de cultivar tão importante lavoura.
