Influence of manure in the seedbed and naked seed on germination and vigor of mango rootstock

Resumo: A study on two sowing methods combined to two substracts was conducted in a half-shaded nursery, located at area of the Cerrado Agricultural Research Center - CPAC/EMBRAPA. Four treatments were used: a. Sowing seeds without endocarp into substract with manure; b. Sowing seeds without endocarp without manure; c. Sowing seeds with endocarp into substract with manure; d. Sowing seeds with endocarp into substract without manure (Control). The results obtained demonstrated that the sowing process of seeds without endocarp promoted high percentage and velocity of germination, and excellent uniformity of the seedlings. On the other hand, this treatment permitted to obtain rootstocks of better quality in a shorter time than the other treatments. Manure didn't interfere with the velocity of germination, although has induced a high vigour on the rootstocks at grafting time. There was no correlation between velocity of germination and diameter of the seedlings, but there was a positive correlation with the height of the rootstocks.

Utilizaram-se dois processos de semeadura combinados com dois tipos de substrato, a fim de se verificar o comportamento de germinação e crescimento de porta-enxertos de mangueira (Mangifera indica L.). Foram usados os seguintes tratamentos: a. Sementes sem endocarpo (amêndoas), em substrato com esterco (sEncE); b. Sementes sem endocarpo, em substrato sem esterco (sEnsE); c. Sementes com endocarpo (caroços) em substrato com esterco (cEncE); d. Sementes com endocarpo em substrato sem esterco (cEnsE), ou controle. Os resultados obtidos demonstraram que o processo da retirada de endocarpo promoveu aumento na percentagem e velocidade de germinação, maior uniformidade de porte, e oferta de mudas de melhor qualidade em menor espaço de tempo. O esterco no substrato não interferiu na velocidade de germinação, embora tenha induzido, na época da enxertia, um maior vigor aos porta-enxertos.
