Effect of planting depth on irrigated wheat in the cerrado region of Brazil

Resumo: During May to September, 1988, a field experiment was conducted to verify the effect of planting depths on irrigated wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cv. Candeias at Planaltina, DF. Four treatments as planting depths (3.5, 7.0, 10.5 and 14.0 cm) with four replications were used in a complete randomised block design. Planting depths did not show any effect on grain yield, hectoliter weight, plant height, weight of 1000 grains, number of spikes/m2 and number of grains/spike. The increase in planting depth affected seriously the initial plant stand and delayed spike formation whereas the number of spikes/plant and the number of days for emergence were increased.

Candeias. Os tratamentos foram de 3,5; 7,0; 10,5 e 14,0 cm de profundidade. O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos ao acaso com quatro repetições. Não houve efeito da profundidade sobre o rendimento de grãos, peso hectolítrico, peso de 1000 grãos, altura da planta, número de espigas/m2 e grãos/espigas.
