Resumo: | This paper deals with the effect of nitrogen and phosphorus on growth and yield of the wheat variety IAS 54. The variables measured were: number of tillers, number of fertile heads, number of kernels per head, weight of 100 seeds and the weight of the straw. The work was carried out under greenhouse condition at Estação Experimental de Ponta Grossa (IPEAME), Brazil, in 1969. The results showed a highly significant effect of nitrogen on the number of tillers and on the number of fertile heads, but not on the weight of 100 seeds. The influence of phosphorus upon that characteristics was observed only in the presence of nitrogen. The number of kernels per head was not influenced by phosphorus application. Correlation between the grain yield, increased by phosphorus, and the number of kernels per head was significant when nitrogen was not applied. The application of nitrogen resulted in a significant correlation between the yield and the number of tillers the number of fertile heads and the weight of 100 seeds. |

The application of nitrogen resulted in a significant correlation between the yield and the number of tillers the number of fertile heads and the weight of 100 seeds.Para estudar o efeito do nitrogênio e do fósforo sobre características agronômicas da variedade de trigo IAS 54 foi conduzido um experimento em casa de vegetação, em Ponta Grossa, região de Campos Cerais no Estado cio Paraná, em 1969. Estudou-se o efeito de três níveis de nitrogênio e cinco de fósforo sobre as seguintes características: número de perfilhos, número de espigas, número de grãos por espiga, peso de 100 grãos e peso da palha. Verificaram-se influências muito significativas do nitrogênio sobre o número de perfilhos e número de espigas. O fósforo influenciou significativamente estas características apenas na presença do nitrogênio, e a interação NP foi muito significativa. Não ocorreram influências do fósforo sobre o número de grãos por espiga, verificando-se o mesmo em relação aos efeitos do nitrogênio sobre o peso de 100 grãos. O nitrogênio, fósforo e sua interação tiveram sempre efeito significativo sobre o peso da palha. A correlação entre os acréscimos de produção devidos ao fósforo e o número de grãos por espiga foi significativa apenas na ausência do nitrogênio. Na presença de nitrogênio foram significativas as correlações entre produção de grãos e número de perfilhos, produção e número de espigas, bem como entre produção e peso de 100 grãos.
