Liming and phosphorus fertilization in soils under cerrado I. Dry matter accumulation and phosphorus uptake by sorghum

Resumo: | A study was made, under greenhouse conditions, on the effects of liming and phosphorus fertilizer (300 kg P205/ha) aplication on dry matter accumulation and P-uptake by sorghum plants. Plants were grown in four Oxisols originally under cerrado vegetation. Liming per se, had no effects on dry matter accumulation and P-uptake. Likewise, phosphorus application without liming did not result in any increase in dry matter accumulation and P-uptake, except for one Oxisol where Al-saturation level was originally low. There was a positive correlation between P-fertilization and liming on dry matter accumulation and P-uptake by plants. The results showed that the main effect of liming in these soils was on the elimination of phytotoxicity, mainly due to exchangeable aluminum. |

The results showed that the main effect of liming in these soils was on the elimination of phytotoxicity, mainly due to exchangeable aluminum.Foi feito um experimento, em casa de vegetação, para estudar os efeitos da calagem e da adubação fosfatada (300 kg de P205/ha), sobre a produção de massa vegetal e absorção de fósforo por sorgo, em quatro latossolos sob vegetação de cerrado. Não se observou qualquer influência da calagem per se sobre a acumulação de matéria seca ou absorção de fósforo pela planta estudada. De forma idêntica, a aplicação de fósforo, sem calagem, não resultou em aumento de matéria seca, ou absorção de fósforo por sorgo, em relação à testemunha, exceto em um dos latossolos, cuja saturação com Al era originariamente baixa. Observou-se expressivo efeito da interação calagem x adubação fosfatada sobre a produção de massa vegetal e na absorção de P pelas plantas.
