Corn silage and poultry litter for dairy heifers during the dry season

Resumo: Fifteen crossbred dairy heifers were assigned to three groups, receiving (1) corn silage only (2) corn silage supplemented with a mixture of poultry litter and com flour (1,425 and 1,396 grams respectively per animal per day), and (3) mollasses grass pasture only. The animals selected were twenty month old and had approximately 220 kg of weight each. The trial was conducted during the dry season and covered a 112 day-period. Treatment effects were evaluated through the gains or losses of live weight. Daily gains were 528 g for animals receiving com silage plus a mixture of poultry litter and corn flour, and 195 g for those fed on a molasses grass pasture. Animals fed only silage lost 175 g per animal per day.

Animals fed only silage lost 175 g per animal per day.Em experimento realizado em Juparanã, Estado do Rio de Janeiro, foram comparados os efeitos de silagem de milho com cama aviária como suplemento proteico, da alimentação exclusiva com silagem de milho e do pastejo exclusivo em capim-gordura sobre o ganho de peso de novilhas mestiças leiteiras, na estação seca. Foram utilizados animais com aproximadamente 220 kg e 20 meses de idade, num período experimental de 112 dias, com delineamento em blocos ao acaso, com três tratamentos e cinco repetições. Houve ganhos diários de 528 e 195 gramas, respectivamente para silagem de milho mais concentrados (1.396 g de fubá de milho + 1.425 g de cama aviária) e pastagem de capim-gordura. Os animais tratados exclusivamente com silagem de milho perderam 175 g/animal/dia. As diferenças foram estatisticamente significativas.
