Resumo: The purpose of this article is to discuss the circulation of legal-criminal ideas as well as their relations with religious culture, having as sources a set of legal periodicals published between the years 1874 and 1955. The search for these sources occurred from our need to clarify some questions related to the way in which criminal legal institutions were conceived and structured in Minas Gerais. From the contact with this documentation we were also able to clarify some points related to the very formation of an intellectuality in the legal field, once the sociologization of the production of such periodicals made possible the understanding of the production and consumption of legal knowledge as a good capable of replacing the use of violence itself with symbolic violence.

A procura por essas fontes deu-se a partir de necessidade de esclarecermos algumas perguntas relativas à forma como foram pensadas e estruturadas as instituições jurídico-penais em Minas Gerais.
