Resumo: The Prospect Theory assumes that information about possible losses is relevant in decision making, as it indicates exposure to the risk of future losses. The objective of this research was to analyze the effects of Contingent Liabilities on economic and financial indicators that may influence decision-making in companies that carry out economic activities with a high environmental impact. To this end, a documentary analysis of the Consolidated and Standardized Financial Statements, for the year 2019, of 30 publicly traded companies from 11 segments listed on B3 was performed, using the Wilcoxon nonparametric test to compare the economic and financial indicators before and after the provisioning simulation for Contingent Liabilities. The results showed that the Contingent Liabilities, released in 2019, can cause significant effects on the indicators, especially those of profitability. It was observed that the segments of Fertilizers, Pesticides and Wood suffered less impact on the indicators with the recognition of Contingent Liabilities, with the segments of Petrochemicals, Mining, Electricity, Steel and Metallurgy having greater impacts. This research can contribute to the literature on the disclosure of passive contingencies and the usefulness of accounting information to external users in the field of Behavioral Finance, as well as for the study and use of financial indicators in decision making, based on information that may have predictive utility.

Centro Universitário ENIAC2021-02-01info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://ojs.eniac.com.br/index.php/EniacPesquisa/article/view/74610.22567/rep.v10i1.746Revista Eniac Pesquisa; Vol. 10 No. 1 (2021); 4-25REVISTA ENIAC PESQUISA; Vol. 10 Núm. 1 (2021); 4-25REVISTA ENIAC PESQUISA; v. 10 n. 1 (2021); 4-252316-234110.22567/rep.v10i1reponame:Revista ENIAC pesquisainstname:Centro Universitário Eniacinstacron:ENIACporhttps://ojs.eniac.com.br/index.php/EniacPesquisa/article/view/746/765Copyright (c) 2021 REVISTA ENIAC PESQUISAhttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessSantos, Domingos Correia dosAlvarenga, Leandro Nunes deBordin, Maria PaulaRobles Júnior, AntonioRieger, Mauricio2024-07-09T18:47:56Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/746Revistahttps://ojs.eniac.com.br/index.php/EniacPesquisaPRIhttp://ojs.eniac.com.br/index.php/EniacPesquisa/oai||revistaeniacpesquisa@fernandoasantos.com.br2316-23412316-2341opendoar:2024-07-09T18:47:56Revista ENIAC pesquisa - Centro Universitário Eniacfalse
