Resumo: Abstract: The green belly stink bug Dichelops furcatus (Fabr.) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) is a key pest of maize, causing damage by both sucking sap and by injecting toxins that affect the normal plant development. In order to assess the economic injury level (EIL) of this stink bug to maize, an experiment at field was conducted in Chapecó, in January 2014 in a complete randomized block design. The treatments were constituted by different populational levels (0, 2, 4, 8, and 17) of D. furcatus adults which were released in cages with 12 maize plants (experimental units). The evaluations were performed by means of both number of plants count with insect attack symptoms 25 days after plant emergence and grain productivity. The increasing population of D. furcatus caused a linear increase of symptomatic plants and a strong reduction in the grain productivity. The EIL for D. furcatus in maize was estimated according to the cost of pest control and value of corn in the market. Considering a corn value ranging between R$12 to R$36 a bag of 60 kg and with cost of control ranging between R$40 to R$160 per hectare, the EIL was always below of 0.5 adult per meter of maize plants.
