Resumo: The most common and unwanted defect in the production of wicker is the ramification of the branches, asit increases the lack of uniformity in diameter, increases of thickness, and promotes the loss of flexibility of wicker. Italso leaves marks when removed after harvest. The present research analyzed the effect of the branch cutting heightbeside the insert point, over the second bud or over the fourth bud, with or without the deletion of the weak ones, on branching formation and yield. This was evaluated under field conditions in Bocaina do Sul, SC, Brazil, from 2003 to2005. The cutting height of branches had no effect on either yield or branching.

O defeito mais comum e indesejado na produção de vime é a ramificação dos ramos, pois aumenta a desuniformidade de diâmetro, favorece o engrossamento e a perda de flexibilidade do vime, além de deixar marcasquando removido após a colheita. O presente trabalho avaliou os efeitos do corte dos ramos rente à inserção, acima da segunda gema ou acima da quarta gema, com ou sem eliminação de ramos fracos, no momento da colheita, sobre a ramificação e a produtividade de vime, no ciclo subsequente. O experimento foi conduzido em lavoura comercialem Bocaina do Sul, SC, no período de 2003 a 2005. A altura de corte na colheita não influenciou a produtividade nem a taxa de ramificação do vimeiro.
