Resumo: Passion fruit is an important agricultural activity for smallholders in the South coast of the Santa Catarina State, Brazil. In terms of annual crop, it is necessary to supply complementary water during eventual agronomic droughts to guarantee early season harvest. This research aims to evaluate the irrigation needs for passion fruit crop in the municipality of Sombrio, SC, on a sandy Quartzarenic Neossol. Meteorological data from near stations were processed to calculate the daily soil water balance for the period from 1979 to 2019, using three values of Soil Water Storage Availability (25, 37 and 50mm). The value of crops coefficient (kc) was dependent on the stage of crop development. The model assumed as soil water deficit the value of easy water availability (mm). For soils with CAD 25mm, representing extremely drought susceptibility, the water layer needed was on average 540mm, ranging from 367 (year 1984) to 665mm (year 2012). The average number of days with irrigation needed was 38, ranging from 26 to 47.  The results determined that passion fruit crops need supplementary water by irrigation in Sombrio, due to the soil and climate features. The annual average of supplementary water was between 400 and 540mm, in 15 to 38 events of irrigation, particularly from November to February, months with more risk of soil water stress.
