Resumo: | The polyculture of fish based on natural food was the most efficient model found in Santa Catarinafor the development of this activity in small rural properties. The use of the available organic matter of theagricultural activities as source of nutrients for the natural food production for fish made fish farmingeconomically viable. Although the polyculture integrated with pig raising can bring environmental gains throughthe transformation of nutrients already available in the farms, this was considered for a long time as a highlypolluting activity due to the use of piggery wastes as an input to the production. The objective of this study wasto analyse the physical-chemical quality of the cultivation water and efluents generated by the fish polycultureintegrated with pig raising and to compare them with the existing environmental legislation. The concentrationsof the physical-chemical variables in the efluents were inside the limits tolerated by the environmental legislationof Santa Catarina State. |

O aproveitamento da matériaorgânica disponível das atividades agropecuárias como fonte de nutrientes para a produção de alimento natural para os peixes viabilizou economicamente a piscicultura. Apesar de o policultivo integrado à suinocultura trazer ganhos ambientais pela transformação de nutrientes já existentes nas propriedades rurais, esta atividade tem sidoao longo do tempo confundida como de elevado poder de poluição por utilizar como insumo para a produção dejetos de suínos. O presente trabalho teve por objetivo estudar a qualidade físico-química da água de cultivo e dos efluentes gerados pelo policultivo de peixes integrado à suinocultura e compará-los com a legislação ambiental vigente. As concentrações das variáveis físco-químicas analisadas nos efluentes gerados pelo policultivo de peixes integrado à suinocultura estão dentro dos limites tolerados pela legislação ambiental vigente.
