Resumo: The organic production of tomato is difficulted by great diversity of pests and diseases. The objectiveof this study was to evaluate the use of physical barriers in organic systems of tomato production in protected environment. It consisted of the tomato evaluation in field conditions and in polyetilene covered greenhouse with and without insect-proof screens laterally. Six cultivation sites were evaluated: polyetilene covered greenhousewithout insect-proof screens, polyetilene covered greenhouse with aphid-proof screens, with citros and clarite insect-proof screens; cultivation in screenhouse without polyetilene covered in the upper and border parts with citros screens, and cultivation in the field. The use of the citros insect-proof screens was effective in the controlof pest attacks and may be used laterally in greenhouse covered with polyetilene for commercial production of tomatoes.

A produção orgânica de tomate é dificultada pela ocorrência de grande diversidade de insetos-pragas e doenças. O trabalho objetivou testar o emprego de telas antiinsetos como barreira física às brocas e à traça-dotomateiro, em abrigos de cultivo, além de verificar seu efeito sobre a produção de frutos visando o desenvolvimento do sistema orgânico de produção. Os sistemas de cultivo a céu aberto e em abrigos de cultivo foram avaliados com e sem uso de telas antiinsetos nas laterais. Os tratamentos foram: abrigos cobertos com polietileno sem tela;com tela antiafídeo (malha de 0,5mm); com tela citros (malha de 1mm); com tela clarite (malha de 2mm); sem cobertura de polietileno, mas revestido na parte superior e laterais com tela citros e a céu aberto (sem cobertura). A tela antiinseto tipo citros foi eficaz no controle de insetos-pragas, podendo ser empregada na lateral de abrigos de cultivo cobertos com polietileno visando a produção comercial orgânica de tomates.
