Resumo: Objective: the study aimed to understand accidents with sharps involving the nursing staff in a surgical center, with the aim of identifying the factors that contribute to the occurrence of accidents. Method: this is an exploratory study with a quantitative approach of documentary and retrospective character. A search of the sharps accident notification forms was carried out. All professionals who suffered accidents participated in the research, totaling 125 professionals linked to the hospital's nursing staff. Conclusion: regarding the type of exposure, the frequency of accidents involving sharp objects was notorious (52.8%. Regarding accidents with exposure of body fluids to intact skin (19.2%), the majority of victims belonged to the category of nursing technician (60.0%). Therefore, through this research, it is expected to contribute with information that encourages the implementation of guidance and prevention programs, enabling these professionals to learn and update about accidents.

Método: trata-se de um estudo exploratório de abordagem quantitativa de caráter documental e retrospectivo. Realizada busca dos formulários de notificação de acidentes perfurocortantes. Participaram da pesquisa todos os profissionais que sofreram acidente, totalizando 125 profissionais vinculados a equipe da enfermagem do hospital. Conclusão: com relação ao tipo de exposição foi notório a frequência de acidentes envolvendo objetos perfurocortantes (52,8%.Em relação a acidentes com exposição de líquidos corpóreos a pele íntegra (19,2%), os acidentados a maioria pertenciam a categoria de técnico de enfermagem (60,0%).
