Resumo: This study aims to analyze the importance of the defense industry and its role in the country's technological development, as well as its socioeconomic aspects from job creation, intellectual property, financial exchange, among others. The role of the State in the scenario of defense and security is addressed, in order to promote projects and research that can add new values and that society can reap the fruits of these investments. Despite the state's role in development, there is a need to pay attention to factors that lead to market failures and how to use mechanisms that aim to reduce these errors. For that, a deductive method was used, using doctrinal analysis, legislation and information about the subject.

For that, a deductive method was used, using doctrinal analysis, legislation and information about the subject.O presente estudo tem como objetivo analisar a importância da indústria de defesa e seu papel no desenvolvimento tecnológico do País, bem como seus aspectos socioeconômicos desde a geração de empregos, propriedade intelectual, divisas financeiras, dentre outros. Aborda-se o papel do Estado no cenário da defesa e segurança, no intuito de fomentar projetos e pesquisas que possam agregar novos valores, e que a sociedade possa colher frutos desses investimentos. Apesar do papel estatal no desenvolvimento, há necessidade de se atentar a fatores que levam às falhas de mercado e como utilizar mecanismos que visam diminuir essas incorreções.
