Resumo: This article intends to give an overview of the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights in what concerns the protection of the environment, disregarding cases of protection through the protection of the domicile. As the term "environment" does not appear in the Convention, since the 1990s the Court has been promoting indirect protection of the environment through the protection of life and freedom of speech. At the same time, the Court has been working to balance assets such as property, freedom and access to justice in the face of environmental protection.

Como o termo “ambiente” não consta da Convenção, a Corte tem promovido, desde a década de 1990, uma protecção indirecta do macrobem ambiental, pela via da tutela da vida e da liberdade de expressão.
