Exclusive breastfeeding until the 6th month of baby's life: benefits and difficulties found

Resumo: The present study aimed to carry out an analysis of the current existing literature regarding the benefits and difficulties listed on exclusive breastfeeding until the sixth month of life of babies. Therefore, an integrative literature review was carried out, based on the selection of articles through the following databases: Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), NCBI/PubMed Virtual Library (National Center for Biotechnology Information), and LILACS - Bireme (Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences), with the year of publication between 2014 and 2022. The results obtained from the search in the consulted databases resulted in 111 articles, of which 28 were pre-selected, and subsequently read in full, 9 articles were defined to compose the study. Thus, the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding, the difficulties encountered by mothers and the factors that lead to early weaning can be observed. Concluding that breastfeeding is an irreplaceable practice, and breast milk is a complete food necessary for the good development of babies and is a factor that also directly reflects on the mother's quality of life. And in this way, health professionals, as well as nursing professionals, are fundamental in encouraging this practice.

Para tanto, realizou-se uma revisão integrativa da literatura, a partir da seleção de artigos por meio dos bancos de dados:  Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), Biblioteca Virtual NCBI/PubMed (National Center for Biotechnology Information), e LILACS - Bireme (Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde), com o ano de publicação entre 2014 e 2022. Os resultados obtidos da busca nas bases de dados consultadas resultaram em 111 artigos, onde 28 foram pré-selecionados, e posteriormente a leitura na íntegra, definiu-se 9 artigos para compor o estudo. Assim, pode se observar os benefícios da amamentação exclusiva, as dificuldades encontradas pelas mães e os fatores que levam ao desmame precoce.  Concluindo que o aleitamento materno é uma prática insubstituível, sendo o leite materno um alimento completo necessário para o bom desenvolvimento de bebês e é um fator que também reflete diretamente na qualidade de vida da mãe.
