Cost of hospital admissions due to femoral fractures in patients over 60 years of age in the State of Sergipe between 2012 and 2021

To describe the direct medical-hospital costs of hospital admissions for fractures of the femur in the State of Sergipe, in adults = 60 years old, recorded in DATASUS, in the period from 2012 to 2021. Cross-sectional study whose data collection took place in the database of the Sistema de Hospital Information from DATASUS, based on information from Hospital Admission Authorizations (AIH). Data were recorded and analyzed in a Microsoft Office Excel spreadsheet (2010 version). There were 4,497 hospitalizations for fractures of the femur, 68.27% in women and 31.73% in men, with a total cost of R$ 9,372,588.83, with an average value per hospitalization of R$ 2,084.19 and average stay of 11.7 days. A high cost was identified with hospitalizations and, consequently, treatment, for fractures of the femur in the State of Sergipe, a situation that could be avoided, among other measures, with primary health prevention, emphasizing health promotion, encouraging patients to regular practice of physical activity, adequate nutrition and strengthening of primary health care.
