Motor physical therapy in children with hydrocephalus: a literature review

Resumo: | Hydrocephalus is characterized by increased cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) volume associated with brain ventricle dilation, often as a consequence of an obstruction of cerebrospinal fluid flow. The treatment is given through surgery; however, this can lead to neuropsychomotor development, requiring the assistance of a multidisciplinary team. Physiotherapy, in turn, treats and adapts the development of these patients using specific methods, emphasizing the quality of life of these patients. The objective of this study is to analyze the effects of motor stimulation on neuropsychomotor development in children aged 0 to 2 years with hydrocephalus. With the aid of the descriptors, 35 articles were found. After the application of the filters: date of publication (2008-2018), languages ​​(English, Portuguese and Spanish) and complete texts, and after careful analysis of the findings, 25 periodicals were selected for the preparation of the present study. Hydrocephalus is a pathology that especially affects children. Its treatment, most of the time, is performed through a surgical process soon after birth. However, such treatment may negatively influence neuropsychomotor development. This child will need adequate stimulation and a follow-up of the multidisciplinary team. Physiotherapy in turn uses specific methods to treat and prevent cognitive and motor changes and delays, which use principles and principles of each creator, but contribute significantly to a favorable prognosis of these children, causing them to have motor development within normal standards and most importantly, quality of life. |

O tratamento se dá através de cirurgia; porém, isso pode ocasionar lesões ao desenvolvimento neuropsicomotor, necessitando de uma assistência da equipe multidisciplinar. A fisioterapia, por sua vez, trata e adequa o desenvolvimento desses pacientes utilizando métodos específicos, enfatizando a qualidade de vida desses pacientes. Tem-se como objetivo analisar os efeitos da estimulação motora no desenvolvimento neuropsicomotor em crianças de 0 a 2 anos com hidrocefalia. Com o auxílio dos descritores, encontrou-se 35 artigos. Após a aplicação dos filtros: data de publicação (2008-2018), idiomas (inglês, português e espanhol) e textos completos, e após análise criteriosa dos achados, selecionou-se uma quantidade de 25 periódicos para a confecção do presente trabalho. A hidrocefalia é uma patologia que afeta especialmente as crianças. Seu tratamento, na maioria das vezes, é realizado através de processo cirúrgico logo após o nascimento. Contudo, esse tratamento pode influenciar negativamente no seu desenvolvimento neuropsicomotor. Essa criança necessitará de estímulos adequados e um acompanhamento da equipe muldisciplinar.
