Resumo: Depression is a mental disorder that affects the majority of the world's population and is the leading cause of disability worldwide. It is a very common pathology in recent years, and are indicated for its treatment medications or psychotherapies. Pharmacological medication has positive influences in the treatment of depression, however, many patients do not adapt or do not continue this treatment due to its many side effects and its very high cost. The persistence of pharmacological treatment increases the search for alternative antidepressant treatments such as psychotherapy, electroconvulsive therapy and physical activity. Research has highlighted a beneficial effect on the application of exercise in different modalities, such as non-drug therapy, which aids in the mental health of patients with depressive and anxious symptoms. The aim of this paper was to identify the effectiveness of physical therapy through exercise as a positive effect in the treatment of depression. A literature review was conducted from June to November 2018, in publications indexed in the databases SciELO, PubMed, LILACS and Google Scholar. Priority was given to publications from 2008 to 2018, in Portuguese, Spanish English. The inclusion criteria for the research were based on clinical trials, literature reviews, case studies, dissertations and theses that addressed the effect of physical exercise in adjusting psychotic disorders, especially depression. In a comprehensive way, through the practice of regular physical activity it is possible to notice a significant improvement of the symptoms of depression, mood, body image, self-confidence, self-esteem, anxiety and consequently improves the quality of life of these patients.

Sustenere Publishing2019-06-20info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://sustenere.inf.br/index.php/sciresalutis/article/view/CBPC2236-9600.2019.001.000110.6008/CBPC2236-9600.2019.001.0001Scire Salutis; Vol. 9 No. 1 (2019): Scire Salutis - Out, Nov, Dez 2018, Jan 2019; 1-8Scire Salutis; Vol. 9 Núm. 1 (2019): Scire Salutis - Out, Nov, Dez 2018, Jan 2019; 1-8Scire Salutis; v. 9 n. 1 (2019): Scire Salutis - Out, Nov, Dez 2018, Jan 2019; 1-82236-9600reponame:Scire Salutisinstname:Companhia Brasileira de Produção Científica (CBPC)instacron:ESSporhttps://sustenere.inf.br/index.php/sciresalutis/article/view/CBPC2236-9600.2019.001.0001/1485Copyright (c) 2019 Scire Salutisinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessSilva, Renata Fonseca daVieira, Ana Paula OliveiraBrito, Alyni Pinheiro2020-01-08T10:56:38Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/2755Revistahttps://sustenere.co/index.php/sciresalutisONGhttps://sustenere.co/index.php/sciresalutis/oai||carlos@arvore.org.br2236-96002236-9600opendoar:2020-01-08T10:56:38Scire Salutis - Companhia Brasileira de Produção Científica (CBPC)false
