Dental treatment in patients with autism spectrum disorder

Resumo: | Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or autism is characterized as a heterogeneous developmental disorder, accompanied by different etiologies and varying degrees of intensity. This special condition consists of the existence of compromised development and restricted behaviors, with deficits in communication and language. There is behavioral disorder, which occurs with previous variations before the child reaches three years of age, whether from any group or social class. Since such disorder makes it difficult for the autistic person to interact with other people, implying in their collective life. The oral health of all patients is a fundamental aspect for the dental surgeon, when the patient with autism, this condition becomes fearful due to the resistance presented to the treatment of these individuals, especially when it comes to children. The constant increase in cases of people with ASD has increased the demand for dentists, a prognosis with a tendency to increase in the future. In the midst of the current growth, dental clinics together with their professionals need to add knowledge in the area to receive them and serve them well. However, individualized treatment is necessary, observing its particularities, making use of therapeutic approaches that will repair the oral health of patients with autism. Therefore, the present study sought to analyze the importance of specialized knowledge for dental care in patients with ASD, treating it with emphasis, not forgetting that the place must also be adapted in order to provide good treatment for them. Because the professionals' lack of preparation for this special public, associated with the family's apprehension, creates barriers that make clinical practices unfeasible that will be effective. Therefore, in addition to the specialization of these professionals, it is necessary to create a solid bond of trust between dentist and patient, as well as maintain connections with other spheres of health, which will result in a service fully adapted to this special audience. |

Essa condição especial consiste na existência do desenvolvimento comprometido e condutas restritas, com déficits em comunicação e linguagem. Verifica-se desordem comportamental, que incide com variações prévias antes da criança atingir os três anos de idade, seja de qualquer grupo ou classe social. Posto que tal desordem, dificulta na interação do autista com outras pessoas, implicando no seu convívio coletivo. A saúde bucal de todos os pacientes é um aspecto fundamental para o cirurgião dentista, quando o paciente com autismo essa condição torna-se temerosa em função da resistência apresentada ao tratamento destes indivíduos, especialmente se tratando de crianças. O constante aumento nos casos de pessoas com TEA têm elevado a demanda dos cirurgiões dentistas, um prognostico com a tendência de aumentar futuramente. Em meio à crescente atual, as clinicas odontológicas juntamente com os seus profissionais necessitam agregar conhecimento na área para recebe lós e atendê-los bem. Não obstante, é necessário tratamento individualizado observados suas particularidades, fazendo uso de condutas terapêuticas que venham a reparar a saúde bucal dos pacientes com autismo. Logo o presente estudo buscou analisar a importância do conhecimento especializado para o atendimento odontológico em pacientes com TEA o tratando com ênfase, não deixando de lado que o local também deve estar adaptado visando no bom tratamento para eles. Pois o despreparo dos profissionais para com esse público especial associada a apreensão da família, cria barreiras que inviabilizam práticas clínicas que venham a ser efetivas.
