Resumo: Based on the Environmental History, this research has as aim the analysis of the historical relation of the community with the nature, the understanding of the historical process of occupancy of the area of Morro do Boi, the elements extracted from biodiversity and how the residents use them. For the data survey, the methodology was the survey research on bibliographical data and unwritten reports – the own memory of the residents. The Morro do Boi community, located in the county of Balneário Camboriú, was colonized by groups of black families from other communities in the region and currently amount to a total of 16 families. According to residents, agriculture and hunting were practiced in the quilombo and wood was used for the construction of houses and manufacture of household and agricultural products. Thus, the development of the community initially became dependent on forests.

Thus, the development of the community initially became dependent on forests.A pesquisa, voltada para a História Ambiental, tem como foco a análise da relação histórica da comunidade com a natureza, a compreensão do processo histórico de ocupação da região do Morro do Boi, dos elementos extraídos da biodiversidade e a maneira como os moradores os utilizam. Para o levantamento dos dados, a metodologia utilizada foi a pesquisa em fontes bibliográficas e em materiais não escritos - a memória dos próprios moradores. A comunidade Morro do Boi, localizado no município de Balneário Camboriú, foi colonizada por grupos de famílias negras originárias de outras comunidades da região e atualmente somam o total de 16 famílias. Segundo moradores, a agricultura e a caça foram praticadas no quilombo e a madeira serviu para a construção das casas e para fabricação de objetos domésticos e agrícolas.
