Based on the Environmental History, this research has as aim the analysis of the historical relation of the community with the nature, the understanding of the historical process of occupancy of the area of Morro do Boi, the elements extracted from biodiversity and how the residents use them. For the data survey, the methodology was the survey research on bibliographical data and unwritten reports – the own memory of the residents. The Morro do Boi community, located in the county of Balneário Camboriú, was colonized by groups of black families from other communities in the region and currently amount to a total of 16 families. According to residents, agriculture and hunting were practiced in the quilombo and wood was used for the construction of houses and manufacture of household and agricultural products. Thus, the development of the community initially became dependent on forests.
