Resumo: This paper investigates, in the light of the same theoretical reference, two distinct objects: a solidarity economy enterprise and a neighborhood association located in Porto Alegre. Such objects have in common the characteristic of consisting of individuals in situation of relative poverty. From its specificities, the aim is to analyze how they access resources through their social relations. In both cases there were realized interviews and observations. The investigation of the cooperative unveiled that the inequality in the social capital distribution amongst its members halts the institution of more symmetric relations. Simultaneously, it constitutes a factor which assures its economic success. Studying the association, it was observed the conformation of a relational network restricted to individuals of inferior position in the social hierarchy. Besides possessing little external links, such links are mostly with agents in similar social position. These factors explain their difficulty in accessing resources and create demands.
