Para tanto, o trabalho divide-se em três partes. A primeira visa compreender o câncer, que acomete um número cada vez maior de pessoas, nos seus aspectos gerais e analisar como esta doença pode afetar todas as áreas da vida da pessoa, e o sofrimento, que é inevitável, pode ser ressignificado à luz da teologia. A segunda averigua a capelania hospitalar e a importância do aconselhamento pastoral no contexto da enfermidade. Como pessoa devidamente habilitada, o capelão ou a capelã deve aplicar seus conhecimentos na assistência espiritual para proporcionar paz e tranquilidade às pessoas assistidas. A terceira analisa os cuidados paliativos e o aconselhamento pastoral na preparação para a morte, área que com certeza o capelão ou a capelã deverá enfrentar com certa regularidade. Esse trabalho tenta jogar mais luz sobre o momento mais difícil da vida de todo ser humano, quando se está entre a vida e a morte.This study aims to reflect on the contributions of pastoral counseling in hospital chaplaincy to palliative cancer patients, with an emphasis on suffering and death. To this end, the work is divided into three parts. The first aims to understand cancer, which affects an increasing number of people, in its general aspects and to analyze how this disease can affect all areas of the person's life, and the suffering, which is inevitable, can be reframed in the light of theology. The second investigates hospital chaplaincy and the importance of pastoral counseling in the context of the disease. As a properly qualified person, the chaplain must apply his or her knowledge in spiritual assistance to provide peace and tranquility to the people being assisted. The third analyzes palliative care and pastoral counseling in preparation for death, an area that the chaplain will certainly have to face with some regularity.
