Resumo: | Objective: to address congenital syphilis as a serious public health problem in Brazil, highlighting its complications, pathophysiology, and challenges in diagnosis and treatment, in addition to presenting an illustrative clinical case. Methodology: The research consisted of a literature review and analysis of a clinical case of a patient with suspected congenital syphilis. Reliable and up-to-date sources were used to support discussions on the epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment, and nursing care related to congenital syphilis. Results: Congenital syphilis represents a significant challenge for public health in Brazil, with the potential to cause neonatal deaths and serious complications. Vertical transmission of the infection is a complex issue, often exacerbated by disparities in access and quality of prenatal care. Early diagnosis is crucial but faces obstacles due to the presence of maternal antibodies and the need for specific diagnostic procedures for newborns. Penicillin treatment is essential to prevent fetal development complications, with appropriate doses prescribed for each stage of the disease. Conclusão: The case study highlighted the importance of detailed medical history, thorough physical examination, and nursing care strategies to provide effective and comprehensive treatment to patients with congenital syphilis. |
