THE RELEVANCE OF SILENCE IN THE MAGISTERIUM OF FRANCIS

Resumo: Using a synthetic-hermeneutic methodology, the present article aims to study the theme of silence in Pope Francis' magisterium, which deepens the importance of silence for the postmodern humankind and for Christians in general. The text begins by showing some elements of the relationship between spirituality and pastoral care in the magisterium of Pope Francis, who presents two contemporary enemies of spiritual life and evangelization: neo-Gnosticism and neo-Pelagianism. These were heresies of the first centuries of Christianity, but, according to Francis, they are subtly present in the life of the Church today. The article then deals with the relevance of prayer and silence in view of personal assimilation of the mystery of Christ. Also based on the magisterium of Francis, the text emphasizes the urgency of rediscovering silence in a society of noise, which makes people sick and alienates them from the interior life and transcendence. Finally, the article explains the role of silence in the Christian experience of God, relating it to the evangelizing mission of the "Church which goes forth" As a conclusion, the article presents silence as an antidote to neo-Gnosticism and neo-Pelagianism. Evangelization.O presente artigo, a partir de uma metodologia sintético-hermenêutica, tem como objeto de estudo a relevância do silêncio no magistério do Papa Francisco. Aprofunda a importância do silêncio para o ser humano pós-moderno e para o cristão. Inicia oferecendo alguns elementos da relação entre espiritualidade e pastoral no magistério de Francisco, apresentando os dois inimigos atuais da vida espiritual e da evangelização: o neo-gnosticismo e o neo-pelagianismo, heresias dos primeiros séculos do cristianismo, mas sutilmente presentes na vida da Igreja, segundo Francisco. Em seguida, aborda a pertinência da oração e do silêncio em vista da assimilação pessoal do mistério de Cristo. Enfatiza, ainda, a partir do magistério de Francisco, a urgência da redescoberta do silêncio numa sociedade do barulho que adoece as pessoas, afastando-as de sua própria interioridade e da transcendência. Explica, por fim, o lugar do silêncio na experiência cristã de Deus, relacionando-a com a missão evangelizadora da Igreja em saída. Como conclusão, o artigo apresenta o silêncio como antídoto para o neo-gnosticismo e o neo-pelagianismo. PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Francisco. Silêncio. Experiência de Deus.
