Maximberus maxi n. gen., n. sp. from Southern and Southeastern Brazil (Diptera: Chironomidae, Orthocladiinae)

Resumo: Maximberus maxi n. gen., n. sp. is described and illustrated based on adult males from Mata Atlântica in Southern and Southeastern Brazil. This genus can be separated from other Orthocladiinae on the combination of bare eyes, wing, and squama; no acrostichals; R4+5 ending proximal to M3+4; comb of setae on hind tibiae composed of few thin setae; well developed anal point; and virga composed of bundles of flattened spines attached to the oral part of the penis cavity.
