Resumo: ABSTRACT: Understanding by semiology the science that is dedicated to the study of meaning within social life, this brief essay develops, at first, a possible social function and trajectory of such science, according to the Barthesian bias. Then, it considers the hypothesis, according to which the conjunction of this function with the systematic study of meaning unfolds to the configuration of a semiology impasse, which is both foreseen and critically read by Roland Barthes (1915-1980). Em seguida, considera a hipótese, segundo a qual a conjunção dessa função com o estudo sistemático da significação desdobra-se para a configuração de um impasse da semiologia, o qual é tanto previsto quanto lido, criticamente, por Roland Barthes (1915-1980).
