Resumo: This paper analyzes the role of the minimum wage in the dynamics of the Brazilian economy by relating it to the performance of the purchasing power of Praia Grande worker in the context of the evolution of the prices of the municipal basic basket. The empirical analysis obtained from field survey data, from April to December 2016, confirms the real loss of purchasing power of the local minimum wage, highlighting the impacts of the Brazilian recession in the Municipality of Praia Grande.
