Resumo: The cooperative sector faces frequent threats of business fraud, where it is urgent to minimize risks and implement controls that provide peace of mind to the different stakeholders that would be affected in the event of a fraud materializing. In view of this reality, the study analyzes the most common business frauds in the cooperative sector. At a procedural level, the document contemplates previous studies on corporate fraud and its characteristics and then details control variables and risks, inherent risks, and detection risks, among others, determining the challenges faced by the cooperative sector for the prevention and early detection of fraud, and some case studies found in the literature are presented. As a result, it is observed that the cooperative sector is exposed to all types of frauds, and for this purpose, traditional and specialized tools are implemented for early detection, in addition, the literature points out that one of the frauds of greater incidence in these organizations is labor fraud, where variables such as those of the fraud pentagon (pressure, opportunity, capacity, rationalization, motivation, and opportunity) are taken advantage of by employers or employees, a situation that is observed from the internal scope of the cooperative.
