Resumo: | Micro and small companies are extremely important in the dynamics and in the economic and social development of the country, despite the tendency to multiply these establishments, there is a difficulty to its perpetuation. The objective of this work was to study the aspects related to the survival of these establishments. Were analyzed the factors of success or failure to better understand all the phenomena that directly or indirectly influence the permanence of these businesses in the market, for this, bibliographical research on the subject was done, gathering data on the success factors of micro and small companies. Subsequently, the municipality of Pedro Leopoldo / MG was chosen, qualitative, descriptive research was carried out, through the application of questionnaires to local entrepreneurs, aiming to identify the characteristics of the companies, the profile of the managers, their perception of the difficulties faced, factors of business success, in addition to issues related to the effect of the pandemic of COVID-19. The results obtained suggest that the main difficulties encountered by entrepreneurs are linked to economic factors, such as the higher tax burden and interest rates, and economic recession. A good sales strategy and good knowledge of the market in which it operates, combined with the entrepreneur's personal characteristics, such as creativity, leadership, persistence, and risk-taking, together, prove to be fundamental for good business performance, according to this research. |

As micro e pequenas empresas desempenham um papel de extrema importância na dinâmica e no desenvolvimento econômico e social do país, e, apesar da tendência de multiplicação destes estabelecimentos, observa-se uma dificuldade de sua perpetuação. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar os aspectos relacionados à sobrevivência desses estabelecimentos. Foram analisados os fatores de sucesso ou fracasso para melhor entender os que influenciam direta ou indiretamente a permanência desses negócios no mercado. Para isso, foi feita inicialmente uma pesquisa bibliográfica sobre o assunto, levantando dados sobre os condicionantes do sucesso das micro e pequenas empresas. Posteriormente, foi escolhida o município de Pedro Leopoldo/MG, onde realizou-se uma pesquisa de abordagem qualitativa, do tipo descritiva, por meio da aplicação de questionários a empresários locais, visando identificar as características das empresas, perfil dos gestores, percepção dos mesmos sobre dificuldades enfrentadas, fatores de sucesso dos negócios, além de questões relacionadas ao efeito da pandemia COVID – 19. Os resultados obtidos sugerem que as principais dificuldades encontradas pelos empresários estão ligadas a fatores econômicos, como a carga tributária e as taxas de juros elevadas e a recessão econômica.
